Around The House Drainage

Prevent Your Basement Walls From Bowing In.

With the sun out and warmer temperatures this year use this time to inspect the area around your foundation perimeter. On a nice weeknight or weekend take 15 Mins. to walk around the perimeter of your house checking for areas holding water next to the foundation. Make sure to check behind bushes and shrubs planted next to the house. Over time the fill used to back-fill your foundation will settle. This allows for low lying areas around your foundations perimeter. These areas will have the tendency to hold water which eventually ends up saturating the soil next to your foundation and increases the hydrostatic pressure against your basement walls. This creates a swelling factor in the loose fill soil pushing against your foundation wall. A simple fix to this is filling in those low lying areas with dirt creating positive drainage away from house. Be sure to check your downspouts and sump drain lines too. As always we are here to help. Call anytime (740) 739-3423. Thanks, Kevin.

Spring Time Tips For Downspout Drains

With Spring around the corner make sure you are checking your gutter drain lines to make sure they are flowing properly. This can easily be accoplished with a garden hose on a nice day. Make sure the the same amount of water is coming out of the discharge end of the pipe as that you are putting into the pipe. If not this could be a indication of a clog somewhere in the line. Also make sure your sump pump is discharging properly away form the house. If you run into any trouble do not hesitate to call. Thanks, Kevin  (740) 739-3423
